Become a Class Rep

At the beginning of the year, the teachers ask for 2-3 parents per class to become a ‘Class Rep’ - please think about volunteering to do this!

The role of the Class Reps is to help the families of the class come together socially to form a community group. Reps might help to ensure everyone in the class knows about and are motivated to to attend fundraising events. They may help organise get togethers in the year and could introduce families who arrive late in the year to the rest of the group. There is no set requirement or expectation of what a Class Rep will do and each year group will naturally form its own way of interacting.

Kindergartens can feel like a female-centric environment, so we encourage dads to think about becoming a Class Rep too. Dads who have put themselves forward to be a class rep often do a great job of ensuring that all the dads have the opportunity to meet each other - which ensures the whole of the kindergarten community is integrated.

Help in Class

We encourage parents to volunteer to help the class one day once a term. This is a great way to share with the class something from your culture, professional background or even your favourite dish or story. It is an invaluable way to find out more about what happens within the classroom environment and how your child interacts with the class. The children are also exceedingly proud and excited about having their parent in the classroom!

Look for notices near the sign-in book for when you can help or talk directly to your child’s teacher.

Help with Fundraising

Brookville has several fundraising events a year including the Welcome BBQ at the start of the year, the Christmas BBQ in December and Trivia Night around August as well as other small initiatives throughout the year.

You can help with our fundraising in several ways:

  • Volunteer to help organise fundraising events - The Committee of Management (CoM) usually has a sub-committee who coordinate the fundraising events for the year. You could either join the CoM or offer to help the sub-committee.

  • Donations - at each event we raffle products and services to raise money. If you, your family or friends have the ability to donate something, it would be most appreciated. In the past we have had donations such as weekends away at family beach houses, food and beverages, toys, ski equipment, cleaning services… anything really! Email us at fundraising@brookvillekindergarten.com.au to chat about how you can help!

  • At the event - Before each BBQ event, a roster is posted in the foyer of the kindy encouraging people to sign up to help with particular aspect of the evening - eg the BBQ, cake stand, raffle tickets, drinks stand… please put your name down to help out!

  • Attend! - Make sure that you come along to the events that we hold and bring friends and family!

Join the Committee of Management

Brookville is run as a community kindergarten - which means that parents and the community have the opportunity to join the Committee of Management (CoM) each year. This provides you with the opportunity develop a deeper understanding of the values and philosophy of Brookville and positively influence your child’s education and outcomes.

The CoM is vitally important, because without it, Brookville Kindergarten cannot exist. The CoM oversees, among other things, the strategic direction of the kindergarten, the employment and motivation of all staff, fees, grants, fundraising and the financial security of the kindergarten.

Stay and Play

Rosters for ‘stay and play’ will begin in Term Two when the children are settled into the kinder environment. Please come along and read a story to the children or introduce the children to your own interests, hobbies and culture. The ‘stay and play’ roster will be placed near the sign-in book at the end of each term. Please add your name and the times convenient to you.

Laundry Roster

The laundry roster involves taking home a bag of towels, smocks and possibly costumes to be washed and dried. This needs to be returned to the kinder ready for the following week that your child is in attendance. Parents are asked to put their name on the roster to help share the load. With an average of ten weeks per term, each family can contribute twice a year.

Craft Donations

Your trash could be our treasure! We encourage the use of recycled materials in the children’s program. If you have any items to donate – boxes, cylinders, blocks, paper, textas, gardening materials, plants or other – please discuss these with your teacher before bringing in the items.

Be Handy

There are often small and large tasks to be completed around the kindergarten. As a parent, grandparent or friend, if you have any skills or ambitions to help us continuously improve the environment, please get in contact with us.
